The FIU Commission of Inquiry impressed the Council of Ministers with their findings and recommendations

The Commission of Inquiry into the Director of the Vanuatu Financial Intelligent Unit (FIU) has completed its final report. Under the leadership of Peter Bong, former Police Commissioner, Ombudsman Investigator, and former police criminal investigator, the commission has delivered an outstanding result.

Despite having a three-month deadline, the team was able to complete the report well ahead of schedule. The report has been handed over to the Minister responsible for COI, John Amos Nalau, and the commission is proud of "their outstanding work speaks for itself, leaving no room for doubt about their expertise and attention to detail."

It is crucial to comprehend the authority granted to a Commission of Inquiry by the law. Despite facing difficulties, Mr. Bong's team has the power to summon anyone for questioning, and non-compliance is not an option. If necessary, police intervention can be employed to ensure an appearance before the Commission.

Mr Peter Bong said despite these obstacles, the individuals who were interviewed were exceptionally cooperative, and the FIU Commission of Inquiry completed its work within a reasonable timeframe.

The Honourable Minister of Justice and Community Services, John Amos Nalau, was thoroughly impressed with the outstanding professionalism displayed by the COI team. Their meticulous work has resulted in the completion of the preliminary report, which has already been handed over to the Minister of Finance for further investigation before prosecution.

Minister Nalau proudly announced that the Council of Ministers has provided immense support to all three Commissions of Inquiry, whose reports have been concluded.

He also informed that the COI's remarkable performance in the Financial Intelligence Unit has earned them an opportunity to investigate the Vanuatu Citizenship saga.

The conclusive report is all set to be presented at the Council of Ministers, and Honourable John Salong Damasing, the Minister of Finance and Economic Management by sometime this week.
