PORT VILA, MARCH 18: The President of Malvatumauri National Council of Chiefs, Paul Robert Ravun, was bestowed with a chiefly title of the Smol Nambas tribe in Malekula Island.
President Ravun was honored with the title “Merhimba Dangdang” during a Namangi custom ceremony held as part of the Chiefs Day celebration in Port Vila signifying a man who diligently cares for his people and advocates for peace.
This recognition holds profound significance as it symbolizes the bridging of traditional customs with contemporary governance structures which the National Council of Chiefs has embarked on it.
Explaining the decision to confer the high chiefly title, it was highlighted that while the President’s election was conducted within the framework of formal law, his role as the head of the National Council of Chiefs, warranted acknowledgment through traditional means.
By embracing the Namangi custom ceremony, President Ravun not only honored the customs and values of the indigenous people but also reinforced the importance of cultural heritage in modern leadership.
