PVFA Pays Courtesy Visit to the Minister of Justice, Youth and Community Services

Port Vila, Vanuatu – The Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Hon. Minister of Youth, Justice, and Community Services to discuss matters regarding the current state of football facilities and potential improvements.

During the meeting, PVFA expressed its gratitude to the government for its ongoing support, particularly in relation to the Port Vila Stadium, through a prior agreement. PVFA, which represents a number of football clubs and organizes football games, highlighted the challenges they face due to the inadequate condition of the football fields, which lack proper facilities and fencing. These improvements are crucial in generating income to cover the costs of running PVFA’s operations and activities.

The main discussion with the Minister focused on reviewing the existing agreement and identifying possible solutions to improve the facilities. The goal is to facilitate infrastructure developments that would generate income for both PVFA and the Vanuatu Sports Authority, ensuring sustainable growth for the sports sector.

The Hon. Minister also stressed the importance of close collaboration between the Vanuatu Sports Authority and sports federations, including football. The Minister emphasized that engaging youth in active sports programs across all age categories is critical in keeping them away from social activities such as alcohol and drugs, which pose a significant threat to society today.

The facilities under discussion include the Port Vila Stadium, various training fields, and private fields, as well as other key venues such as the Amical Field. The PVFA and the Minister both agreed that continued partnership and investment in sports infrastructure will help foster positive outcomes for youth engagement and contribute to the overall development of the sports sector in Vanuatu.
