Lenakel, Tanna — The Government of Vanuatu, through the Public Service Commission (PSC), successfully hosted the 2025 Public Service Day from 31st July to 4th August at Laminu Stadium, under the theme: “Strengthen Government Decentralized Services through Innovative Approach.”
This five-day event marked a milestone in the ongoing effort to bring essential government services closer to the people, especially in remote and underserved communities.
13 government ministries and agencies participated by delivering direct public services, live demonstrations, and awareness sessions. Services provided included civil registration and ID services, legal assistance, youth engagement activities, customary land consultation, health services, financial literacy programs, and agriculture support services, among others.
The event demonstrated the practical impact of decentralization, with local communities in Tanna and surrounding islands accessing key services without needing to travel to Port Vila.
The event also served as a valuable career guidance platform for students, who actively engaged in discussions with government officers and education providers. Through their questions and participation, students gained insights into various career pathways and study options.
One of the key highlights of the five-day event was a series of panel discussions hosted by the Public Service Commission (PSC), featuring Director Generals, Directors, and senior government officials. These sessions provided an open platform for the public to engage directly with leaders by raising questions about government service delivery.
Adding to the atmosphere were vibrant live performances from local bands and string bands who traveled from Shefa to Tafea Province to be part of the entertainment program.
This initiative plays a key role in guiding young people toward higher education and contributes to building Vanuatu’s future qualified workforce aligned with national development needs.
Chair of the Public Service Commission, Martin Mahe noted in his remarks,
“The PSC Day has proven that innovation and decentralization can go hand in hand. We have seen people accessing critical services in one location. This is the true meaning of a government that serves its people.”
Community feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with local residents expressing their appreciation for the direct engagement and support they received from government representatives.
The 2025 Public Service Day on Tanna has set a new benchmark for service outreach, innovation, and inter-government collaboration, making it one of the most successful PSC Days to date.
