Solomon Islands Justice Minister Strengthens Ties with Vanuatu Counterpart

The Solomon Islands Minister for Justice, Hon. Clezy Rore, paid a courtesy visit today to Vanuatu’s Minister for Justice, Hon. Job Andy, reaffirming the strong partnership between the two nations’ justice sectors.

The visit builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2024 between the two Ministries of Justice, which has already delivered positive outcomes. One key achievement is the twinning program linking the Vanuatu Law Reform Commission and the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission — a collaboration that has strengthened legal capacity, encouraged shared learning, and deepened Melanesian solidarity.

“As Melanesian nations with shared values and common challenges, it is only fitting that we support and learn from one another as we develop our justice sectors,” Minister Rore said. Hon. Job Andy warmly welcomed his counterpart, stressing the importance of cooperation among Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) countries and reaffirming Vanuatu’s commitment to deepening ties with the Solomon Islands.

Accompanying Minister Rore was the Solomon Islands Permanent Secretary of Justice and Legal Affairs, who emphasized that the collaboration between the two countries will continue to foster mutual learning and the exchange of valuable experiences.

Director General of the Ministry of Justice, Youth and Community Services, Ms. Cherol Ala, described the visit as a powerful demonstration of Melanesian unity. She highlighted the importance of the 2024 MOU, which commits both Ministries to share experiences, achievements, and challenges while exploring future directions for justice sector development.

She noted that the ongoing twinning programs — already active between Law Reform Commissions and Correctional Services — will soon expand to include other departments under the Ministry.

“This MOU is a significant step forward in strengthening the ties between our two nations through our respective Justice Ministries,” DG Ala said. “As members of the MSG family, we must continue to support one another in both good and challenging times. Ultimately, it’s the relationship that matters.”

The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to building capacity and strengthening cooperation across their justice systems, ensuring a lasting partnership for years to come.
