Port Vila, 29-10-2026: The Department of Correctional Services successfully hosted the SANMA Community Justice Supervisors’ Forum in Luganville from 7–9 October 2026 under the theme, “Safe Community and Second Chance.” The forum brought together 19 chiefs, church representatives, and community leaders serving as Community Justice Supervisors across SANMA Province.
Held as part of the Department’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the forum strengthened participants’ understanding of their role in supporting offender rehabilitation, sentence management, and successful reintegration into communities. Community Justice Supervisors play an important role in monitoring offenders serving community-based sentences and supporting positive behavioral change.
Participants received training on restorative justice principles, offender compliance requirements, the Rod Blong Jastis, leadership, ethics, crime prevention, and the legal framework guiding community justice supervision. Discussions also highlighted the importance of combining customary conflict resolution practices with the formal justice system to promote accountability, reconciliation, and community safety.
The forum reaffirmed the value of community-based rehabilitation in reducing reoffending and creating safer, stronger communities while providing offenders with opportunities for a second chance.
The Department of Correctional Services extends its sincere appreciation to the Vanuatu Australia Policing and Justice Program (VAPJP) for funding the forum and supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen probation and rehabilitation services throughout Vanuatu.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting rehabilitation, reducing reoffending, and working together to build safer and stronger communities across SANMA Province.
