Accessing help in your community
The Authorised Persons (APs) program helps people in rural areas of Vanuatu who are experiencing family violence. It gives them a safer way to seek protection and support, especially when police or court services are far away.
APs are trusted community members who have been officially appointed by the President of the Republic of Vanuatu under the Family Protection Act. They are trained to help victims and have the legal power to issue a temporary protection order (TPO) lasting up to 14 days.
How APs can help
If you are facing family violence, an Authorised Person can:
- Listen and help you feel safe
- Issue a temporary protection order if you are in danger and cannot easily reach police or the court
- Connect you to other services, such as police, hospitals, counselling or shelters
- Accompany you to services in town, if needed
APs are volunteers who understand the importance of safety, dignity and support in their communities. They are there to help people of all ages and backgrounds.
Where to find an AP
Authorised Persons are currently working in rural communities across Santo, Malo and Malekula. More locations will be added as the program expands.
The map shows the location, name and contact details of Authorised Persons in your province. You can call them directly for advice or help. All calls are private.
This program is supported by the Ministry of Justice and Community Services (MJYCS) and the Vanuatu Australia Policing and Justice Program (VAPJP) as part of efforts to increase access to justice for everyone in Vanuatu.
