    43 years after independence the chiefs of Aneityum welcome word of Vanuatu’s laws

    PORT VILA, DECEMBER 20: Last week, 43 years after independence, chiefs on Vanuatu’s southernmost island of Aneityum welcomed teams raising awareness of the country’s laws for the first time. Malvatumauri, with support from the Vanuatu Australia Policing and Justice Program (VAPJP), has developed a workshop to help chiefs perform their customary law roles in communities and to better understand the state-made laws of Vanuatu.

    Finally, the Acting Director General of the Ministry of Justice and Community Services, Mr. Pacco Siri, delivered Vanuatu’s statement at the 10th Session of the Conference on the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Atlanta, United States of America.

    Vanuatu has joined the Pacific delegation that is attending the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (CoSP10) in Atlanta from December 11-15, 2023.

    JOB WELL DONE COMMISSION OF ENQUIRIES

    The Minister of Justice and Community Services, John Amos Nalau, has commended the professionalism of the two commissions of inquiry that were set up within a very short time after the commissioners were appointed last month. The Commission of Inquiry into the Vanuatu Financial Intelligent Unit and two Vietnamese vessels detained in Port Vila harbor has accomplished a lot in a short period of time.
