    USP law student’s internship with Customary Land Management Office

    Civil Society Organisations in Vanuatu Champion Human Rights through Universal Periodic Review (UPR) submissions

    Suva, Fiji – In a significant move to promote and protect human rights, six Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Vanuatu have submitted their stakeholder report to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by 11 October 2023. The reports submitted include two joint and four individual submissions.

    A Successful 2023 National UPR Consultation

    A week ago a successful national Sanma UPR consultation was held in Santo with members of the Professional Technical Assistance Committee (PTAC), giving government officials in our northern city the opportunity to comment on the recommendations presented to the Vanuatu government during the third UPR cycle in 2019.

    The Land Ombudsman must function properly in order to fulfil its duties

    Since the establishment of the Office of the Land Ombudsman in 2014 until today, it has operated with only one employee, which defeats the whole purpose of establishing the office.
